Tuxedo Component Lounge is a highly tailored lounge seating group built on
a series of simple base elements, from which a full array of configurations
can be specified‰ЫУfrom an ottoman and club chair to a full-size corner sectional. Based on elegantly tall steel legs, Tuxedo's underpinnings are nearly invisible.
"In my architecture, I strive to make buildings appear as light as possible,"
says designer Craig Bassam of BassamFellows. "I pare back the unnecessary bulk and then express the structure in an honest and elegant way. I apply the same philosophy to furniture."
Like a classic tuxedo, the arm and back panels are the same height but the overall proportion is new. The lowered height creates a low horizontal band from arm to back, while the seat is amply proportioned for comfort. The overall look is low and sleek‰ЫУInternational Style‰ЫУyet the seat height is distinctly American, at a comfortable 17 inches. Cushions are shaped from dual-density foam for firm support and softness, with handcrafted quilting for a softly tailored surface. (A non-quilted version also is available.) "Comfort is extremely important to me. I want Tuxedo to set a new comfort standard for the contract market," adds Bassam.
