© Monica Curiel | In each of her original artworks, first-generation Mexican American artist Monica Curiel thoroughly demonstrates the step-by-step labor involved in their creation. As a child, she accompanied her parents to work, spending time with her father on construction sites. These early experiences were instrumental in shaping her artistic practice. The background image used for Barro Blanco wallcovering was created by applying Roman clay to achieve a subtle textural movement. In the foreground, plaster sheets were formed and arranged into repetitive shapes.
