Knoll's 1966 Lounge Chair embodies modern, durable outdoor design by Richard Schultz, created at Florence Knoll's request for furniture resilient to corrosive salt air. This minimal, boxy lounge chair features a suspended seat and back crafted from woven vinyl coated polyester mesh with solid pure vinyl straps sewn using Teflon thread. Its frame is constructed of welded cast and extruded aluminum finished in a weather-resistant polyester powder coat, supported by stainless steel connectors and includes glides. Available with optional pads and pillows in select KnollTextiles and a fitted outdoor cover, the chair carries Certified Clean Air GOLD environmental certification. Configurations include a low, unupholstered shell back with two arms on a white, four-leg base.

Richard Schultz designed the 1966 Collection at the request of Florence Knoll, who wanted well-designed outdoor furniture that would withstand the corrosive salt air at her home in Florida. The Collection was the first truly modern outdoor collection and has been the category standard ever since.
