It is lightweight, UV resistant, frostproof, and shatterproof. The optional sub-irrigation system has a reservoir that supplies your plant with just the right amount of water for optimal growth. How the Lechuza Self-Watering System works

This unique, self-watering planter uses a sub-irrigation system to aid you in plant and flower maintenance. This innovative system includes a separator piece that is placed in the bottom of the plant liner to form a reservoir. Cover the separator piece with a layer of Lechuza PON plant substrate. This layer will regulate the amount of water your plant receives. Apply quality potting soil over the layer of PON, set your greenery in the pot, and continue to fill the planter with soil.

Over the next twelve weeks water the plant from the top as you would normally. Along the inner edge of the container you will find a supply shaft with a water level indicator. The supply shaft makes it easy to add water and liquid fertilizer to the reservoir without disassembling the watering system. Be sure to fill the reservoir with water via the supply shaft until the indicator reads "max" when first watering the plant. Note that you should only fill the reservoir halfway for plants that require little water. Once the plant's roots have grown deep enough to soak up the water from the reservoir below, it will flourish for up to twelve weeks without the need of additional watering.
