Passion and perspective

Textiles & Objects Poster
The Textiles & Objects Poster is evidence that, in Girard's hands, advertising can rise to the level of art. Among the many invitations, signs, product tags, and other graphical elements Alexander Girard designed to promote the midtown Manhattan Textiles & Objects shop he launched with Herman Miller in 1961, this faithful, screen-printed re-edition of the 26-by-20-inch poster is available framed or unframed.

Herman Miller's first foray into retail, the midtown Manhattan Textiles & Objects shop was born out of Alexander Girard's commercial interests and personal passions. With a hand-selected stock of international folk art, bolts of fabric, custom occasional furniture, and small items he commissioned and designed, the Textiles & Objects shop offered the public a chance to step into Girard's rarified world. In creating the Textiles & Objects Poster, Girard did as much to expand the boundaries of graphic design as he did to promote this innovative endeavor.
