With a commitment to environmental sustainability, Uhuru Design was founded in 2004 by RISD graduates Jason Horvath and Bill Hilgendorf. Combining antique woods with industrial metals like blackened steel, the brand has a rustic yet masculine aesthetic. Based in Brooklyn’s historic Red Hook neighborhood, Uhuru’s designs have been shown in the Brooklyn Museum and The Milwaukee Museum of Art.
