In recent years, Tuohy has emerged as an industry leader, not only in creating fashionable and functional solutions to the evolving milieu of the workplace, but also in incorporating sustainable manufacturing practices. Recently the company achieved Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). This independent, unaffiliated certification agency exists to verify the accuracy of environmental claims. The third-party verification has substantiated the low emissions of Tuohy’s entire line of casegoods, conference tables, media storage, and occasional tables: “These products meet all requirements for USGBC LEEDv3, EQ4.5, ANSI/BIFMA e3-2010, as well as California Section 01350 Specification for low emitting furniture.”

• XPect — Tuohy’s XPect line of casegoods ushers in a new age of precise specification in office furnishings. Known as a new “parametrics in fine furniture,” XPect is program of modular customization that allows clients to specify custom shapes and sizes among Tuohy’s extensive line of casegoods, right down to details like storage fronts, edge finishes, and drawer/pull hardware. Courtesy of Tuohy’s cutting edge order processing system, users simply specify the desired size for a given element along Tuohy’s expansive continuum of sizes: “Simply modify the item #’s dimensional reference and use the price on the next larger size.” The system makes not only makes it easy to tailor a product to a specific space, it also facilitates rapid, low-cost reconfiguration.
• Edo — Edo is Tuohy’s award-winning line of swivel/guest seating. Designed by Jess Sorel of Sorel Studio, Edo features an attractive metal finish in resin brushed steel and the kind of lean geometric lines characteristic of the best in contemporary contract seating. Options for Edo include high and low format arms and legs capped in casters or glides. A variety of upholstery options are available. Recently awarded Interior Design’s Best of Year 2011 Honoree Recognition Award, Edo drew accolades for its slim, space saving design and innovative angular aesthetic.
• Zi Collection — Tuohy has embraced the advent of instantaneous communication and the virtual workspace with the forward-thinking Zi Collection. Calling for “minimal design amidst maximal accommodation of technology,” Zi’s centerpiece is a floor-to-ceiling telepresence wall with a depth footprint of a mere 15”. The wall accommodates multiple screens with minimum space, thus allowing conferencing rooms to retain broad functionality: “The efficient footprint allows tables to serve normal conferencing needs when telepresence is not in session.” In addition to the telepresence wall, Zi integrates large conference tables, storage modules, and control podiums. Each element in the Zi collection is available in Tuohy’s line of surface finishes, which includes multiple veneer varieties and a choice of vertical or horizontal grain orientation.

In addition to Tuohy’s improvements in minimizing or eliminating hazardous emissions, the company has also made strides in minimizing the environmental impacts of manufacturing upholstery. Ecolife is a collection of earth-friendly, 100% biodegradable leather upholstery with a chrome-free, non-toxic protective finish: “more formaldahyde exists in an apple than in one hide of Ecolife Leather.” Tuohy’s product portfolio is rife with such examples of environmentally-sensitive furnishings that display excellent functionality and captivating aesthetics.
