Therien & Co. specializes in period furniture. Besides its extensive line of antiques, the company produces custom furniture under its Studio Workshops brand. It also offers classic modern furniture under its Therien 20th name.

Description

With a history dating back to the late 1950, Therien & Co. established itself as a retailer of decorative accessories, antiques, and fine art. Now known mostly for representing fine period antiques, the company has also branched out into custom furniture and mid-century classics.

  • French Ebonized Reclining Armchair— Part of the Therien 20th collection, this circa 1940 armchair has a rectangular hinged back with an adjustable bar mechanism that connects to an upholstered seat. Bold wooden arms and legs anchor the lounge chair and create sculptural interest.
  • Italian Neoclassic Parcel-Gilt and Glass Chandelier— One of Therien & Co.’s many period chandeliers, this eighteenth-century Genoan chandelier features a foliate carved baluster stem with glass sphere. Eight gilt metal upswept arms display turned bobeche. The entire fixture is festooned with glass beads and drops. At 48” in diameter and 54” in height, the Italian Neoclassic Chandelier is sure to be a conversation piece.
  • Marcel Wanders Chromium Knotted Table Prototype— Designed by Wanders for Capellini, this prototype from 2001 has a triangular frame and hand-knotted rope base holding a circular glass top. Constructed of aramide braid with a carbon center and hardened with epoxy resin, the artistic base seems weightless. This intricate coffee table is part of the Therien 20th line.
  • Russian Neoclassic Mahogany Brass Mounted Armchairs— Dating from the late eighteenth century, this pair of armchairs features oval medallions depicting Bacchi putti. With a rectangular curved tablet back, downswept arms, and a tight upholstered seat, the Russian antique chairs are closely related to a suite that was commissioned for Pavlovsk Palace in St. Petersburg. Fluted tapering legs and inlayed brass mounts complete the elegant style of the pair of Neoclassic chairs.
  • Swedish Neoclassic Karelian Birch Bureau Plat— A circa 1800 rectangular desk, this Swedish masterpiece measures 73” wide x 31.5” deep x 30/75” high. Its gorgeous wood top is inset with a gilt tooled leather panel. Three drawers over tapering legs complete the look. This piece is one of Therien & Co.’s line of luxurious desks.

Based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Therien & Co. successfully launched its Studio Workshops brand of furniture by creating beautiful freestanding showrooms in both California cities. Studio Workshops products are also on display in national multi-line showrooms. For people with simpler tastes, Therien & Co. introduced 20th-century iconic furniture into the mix of period antiques.
