Joining Grid State and Ecotone, Biotope is the third 100% recycled, biodegradable polyester* textile in the Luum line, providing more design solutions with its bleach-cleanable and multipurpose-use properties. Biotope, a word synonymous with habitat, refers back to traditional basketweaves using a new sustainable technology. Recycled cationic and disperse polyester fibers are enhanced with a bio-catalyst additive at the molecular level, accelerating biodegradation in anaerobic environments. In the landfill, the additive attracts microorganisms to break down the polymer chains. After approximately 3.5 years, biodegradation is complete and only naturally occurring elements remain.
