The design for this chair is based on an early 19th century piece Thomas Jefferson discovered in New Orleans. The Campeachy form that was popular in New Orleans was derived from Spanish sources and the name is an Anglicized spelling of Campeche, a Mexican state, where a kind of mahogany was grown that was often used to make the chair. Made of hardwood solids in a Castle Brick finish, the Campeachy Chair features a demi-lune crest rail that rests over a leather back and seat with antique brass nail head trim, flanked by wavy arm posts that raise flat arms accented by carved scrolls. An X-shaped base and curved leather seat with nail head trim adds interest to the accompanying Campeachy Leather Ottoman.
