Vertical Grain Heart Pine is characterized by a rich uniform color that is enhanced by the tight growth rings at the center. These rings cause the vertical grain and remind us of just how big our local pines used to grow. The sculpting technique used to create this texture truly enhances the linear grain throughout the board. These trees had to fight for light, and grow taller and wider over the course of hundreds of years in order to take on this quality. Reclaimed Heart Pine is significantly stronger than pine harvested today, and tests as hard as new Oak. This fiber is virtually knot and fastener free as it is mainly reclaimed, graded, and well selected from the thick decking found in the larger industrial mills built during the industrial revolution scattered throughout the northeast.
