Manufacturer's Product Description

Moiré chair reminds us of moiré textiles and while working on this chair we were listening to the music of Bennie Moré, the famous Cuban singer from the fifties. The double layer shell of Moiré with its unusual transparency plays with light and shadow and shows its plasticity in a very subtle way. The concept behind the design is to create a form that is pure structure with an almost archaic quality.

With the introduction of so called space frame type design we significantly reduced the amount of material needed to realize this shell without loosing strength or stability.

Moiré reduces weight by optimizing its structure but is sturdy and flexible all the same Lightweight structures are characterized by having a rather small mass relative to the applied load, which is determined through an optimization process.

The exploration of the complex form and geometry of Moré was made possible only by a range of new tools including CAD and rapid prototypes. For the first time in history a 'spatial structure', in this case a double layer grid is now made as a one part injection moulded piece without the necessity to glass reinforce the PP used. And of course Moiré is durable, recyclable, stackable and with our without armrests.
