Manufacturer's Product Description

DensShield tile backer is the ultimate tile backer board for walls, ceilings, countertops and floors. It is the ideal substrate for tile and non-tile installations in wet and non-wet applications, areas of high humidity and for fire-rated assemblies. Hundreds of millions of square feet of DensShield tile backer have been installed over the past 19 years with virtually no claims. DensShield tile backer is the only backer with a built-in moisture barrier that prevents moisture from penetrating into the wall cavity or floor substrate. The panel is composed of a proprietary, water-resistant treated core that is covered front and back with fiberglass mats. These mats are integrated with the core, preventing delamination problems.
When tested, as manufactured, in accordance with ASTM D 3273, DensShield tile backer scores a 10, the highest level of performance for mold resistance under the ASTM D 3273 test method.
The score of 10, in the ASTM D 3273 test, indicates no mold growth in a 4-week controlled laboratory test. The mold resistance of any building product when used in actual job site conditions may not produce the same results as were achieved in the controlled, laboratory setting. No material can be considered mold proof. When properly used with good design, handling and construction practices, DensShield paperless tile backer boards provide increased mold resistance compared to standard paper-faced wallboard products.
Drill down in the categories below for detailed information, illustrations and performance characteristics for a variety of wall systems and assemblies using gypsum wallboards, sheathing, shaftliner and backer boards from Georgia-Pacific.
Also see CAD details for these assemblies.
The data relating to fire and sound-tested assemblies is based on the characteristics, properties and performance of materials and systems obtained under controlled test conditions as set forth under the appropriate ASTM standard, such as E 108 (fire), E 90 (sound) or E 72 (structural).
