The swivel action top is formed of eight spin-out, triangular segments with additional leaves to expand the table top, which is raised on a substantial center turned pillar and four turned columns on a concave platform base. The handmade internal capstan action and inset corners are of solid brass. The original was patented by Robert Jupe of 47 Welbeck Street, Cavendish Square in March 1835. Jupe and his then partner John Johnson manufactured these tables between 1835 and 1840. Jupe tables are extremely rare, in fact amongst the rarest of all furniture , and have fetched up to $500,000 at auction.
