The table made at the Kittinger Company plant in Buffalo, New York
for the Cabinet Room in the White House.
It is an oval shape 21'0" x 7'0" at the center. The table has an 8" banding of mahogany with the balance of the center part of the table in top grade leather. The base is of solid mahogany with brass ferrules and casters. The leather supplier advised us that it required two months of selecting hides to find ones large enough and free of major defects to cover the top. The leather was applied here at the Kittinger plant and was gold tooled by hand. The Cabinet Room chairs are covered in a matching leather. The finish on the table is a Kittinger Heirloom finish which is a mellow brown color with antiquing. The top is made up of two 11'0" sections supported by three complete base units. President Nixon personally paid for the cabinet table and presented it as his gift to The White House. Originally built by Kittinger for the Cabinet Room in 1970, the leather top was restored by Kittinger in August of 1997 for President Bill Clinton.
