About Lighting & Electrical

Most spaces require a mix of lighting typologies, from ambient lighting to task lighting and accent lighting. Consider the types of activities that will take place in a given space, and develop a lighting plan accordingly.

Ceiling Fans are the most cost-efficient and least expensive method of temperature control for residential or commercial settings. High Speed Ceiling Fans move air quickly for maximum cooling, but Low Speed Fans conserve energy, and in the form of Wide Blade Fans may prove equally effective.

The ceiling light illuminates large spaces or whole rooms. They are most often categorized by their relation with the ceiling: Flushmounted Ceiling Lights leave no space between the lighting unit and the ceiling, while Semi Flush Ceiling Lights project a few inches below the ceiling.

Floor Lamps have elongated bases, so the light source stands approximately 4-7 ft off the ground. They are often used as bedside lights or in living rooms to achieve a softer, more focused light. Overhanging floor lamps use a levered arm or a horizontal crosspiece to direct light down on an adjacent reader.

Outdoor lighting is available in many of the same designs as indoor lighting, but is built to withstand rain and wear. Outdoor ceiling lights illuminate spaces under the roof of an outdoor patio or porch. Outdoor wall lamps, floor lamps and landscape lighting provide illumination throughout the yard or along the store-front.

Recessed Lighting fits into a small hole or slot in the ceiling or wall, permitting a low ceiling profile for your lighting systems. Low Voltage Recessed Lights use a transformer to decrease the incoming voltage of an electrical system, creating a softer light. Line Voltage Recessed Lights use normal electrical power.

A classy variation on the ceiling light, the suspension light hangs from the ceiling on a chain or cable, lowering the light source and calling attention to the often decorative fixture at the end of the line. Pendant Lights are single-source fixtures, while Chandeliers consist of a number of lighting sources grouped together.

Table Lamps are small stand-alone lighting units designed to provide ambient light. While traditional table lamps often feature a decorative or carved base and ornamental glass or fabric shade, modern versions often redefine the form.

Task Lamps (also desk lamps) provide a focused and directional beam, with a simpler and more utilitarian base than standard table lamps. Task lamps often feature an adjustable arm.

Track Lighting is one of the most economic and versatile lighting solutions, providing task lighting, ambient lighting, and even decorative accent lighting. Types of track systems include standard track, monorail track, and cable.

Wall lights are mounted on horizontal surfaces and can provide everything from diffuse lighting to focused light to illuminate. Wall lighting consists of wall sconces, picture lights, linear wall lights, bath & vanity lights.
